65th ANNUAL CHATHAM KIWANIS MUSIC FESTIVAL
The 65th Annual Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival will be held this year from April 6 - 9 and April 12 - 16. Music students from across Chatham-Kent, Windsor and Essex are now busy preparing for the Festival. This year there are 885 entries in the Festival. Festival entrants were able to register and pay registration fees online.
Mayor Randy Hope and Festival representatives will conduct a Music Festival Opening Ceremony and Flag Raising in front of the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre on Tuesday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m.
During the first week all Vocal, Intermediate/Senior Piano and Speech Arts classes will be held at Chatham Baptist Church. Adjudicators are Elizabeth Parsons, London, for Vocal, Marion Miller, London, for Intermediate/ Senior Piano and Jane Rogers, Kingsville, for Speech Arts. Junior Piano classes will be conducted at Chatham Cultural Centre, Studio 1, adjudicated by Anita Ruthig from St. Mary’s.
During the second week, Chatham Baptist Church will be the site for all Music Theatre, Choir, Ensemble, Strings and Instrumental/Guitar classes. School Choirs and Bands will be adjudicated at their home locations. Linda Fletcher from Oakville will adjudicate Music Theatre, Choirs and Ensembles while Doug Shippey from Woodstock will serve as adjudicator for Strings, Instrumental/Guitar and Bands.
Festival programs may be purchased in advance for $10, beginning March 22 at Gospel Text Book Store, Frank’s Music Centre, Tony’s One Stop Music Shoppe and Musical Strings ‘N‘ Things. A limited number of programs will be available at the door of each location. The program admits the purchaser to all Music Festival events except the Grand Concert. Without the program, admission for each event is $2.00 or a pass for the Festival can be purchased for $5. There is no admission fee for children and students.
The Grand Concert will be held at Kiwanis Theatre on Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m. Selected Festival participants will perform and awards will be presented.
Information is also available on the Festival website at www.chathamkiwanis.com. Festival results will be posted on the website throughout the Festival.
The public is invited to attend all aspects of this Festival to support and encourage the area’s talented young participants.
