2009 CHATHAM KIWANIS MUSIC FESTIVAL WILL OPEN SOON

The 2009 Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival is fast approaching with events beginning on March 30. The committee is busy finalizing plans and participants are busy practicing to prepare quality performances.

Those planning to attend Festival events are encouraged to purchase Festival programs in advance. They may be purchased for $10 until March 27 at Gospel Text Book Store, Frank’s Music Centre, Tony’s One Stop Music Shoppe and Musical Strings ‘N‘ Things. A limited number of programs will be available at the door of each location during the Festival. The program admits the purchaser to all Music Festival events except the Grand Concert, as does a pass for $5.00 which is available at the door. Without a program or pass, admission for each event is $2.00. There is no admission fee for children and students.

There will be an Opening Ceremony and Flag Raising in front of the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30.

Classes for Vocal, Intermediate/Senior Piano, Junior Piano, Strings and Instruments will be held at Chatham Baptist Church and St. Andrew’s United Church from March 30 to April 2nd. On April 6 and April 7 classes for Junior Music Theatre and Speech Arts will be held at Chatham Baptist Church and Senior Music Theatre and Choir classes will be held at Kiwanis Theatre.

Band entries will be adjudicated on Wednesday, April 1 at Chatham Christian Schools. The adjudicator will not assign marks but will determine a level of gold, silver or bronze competence, based on established criteria.

The Grand Concert will be held on Monday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at Kiwanis Theatre. Selected festival participants will perform and awards will be presented. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students and $10 for families.

The public is invited to attend all aspects of this Festival to encourage the talented young participants.
