NEW AWARDS TO BE PRESENTED AT CHATHAM KIWANIS MUSIC FESTIVAL GRAND CONCERT

The finale of the 65th Annual Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival will take place in the form of a Grand Concert on Tuesday evening, April 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Kiwanis Theatre, Chatham.

Thanks to the generosity of Chatham-Kent businesses, service organizations and individuals, monetary awards totalling approximately $8000 and many trophies and plaques will be presented.

This year new awards will be presented in memory of Janet Wake and Jim LaPointe who passed away in the past year. Both were volunteers and strong supporters of the Music Festival for many years. In addition, the Kiwanis Silver Tray for piano and Golden K Kiwanis Bowl for vocal will be presented.

Janet Wake was a highly respected teacher of vocal and piano students and an organist and choir director in Chatham and Ridgetown. She also served as Secretary of the Music Festival for eight years.

Jim LaPointe, a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Chatham-Kent Golden K, served on the Festival Committee for many years as the Information Technology person who developed computer programs for entries and programming, formatted the syllabus, programs and forms and recorded results for publication.

Selected Music Festival participants performing piano, vocal, strings, instrumental and music theatre numbers will provide an enjoyable evening of entertainment. St. Ursula Chamber Choir, Holy Family Recorder Ensemble and Chatham Christian School Canta Gloria Chamber Choir will also perform.

TVCOGECO will videotape the Concert and air it on Channel 11. Greg Hetherington will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the program.

The public is invited to attend to support the talented students who perform at the Concert. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors and $10 for families. Tickets are available at the door. Advance tickets are not required.
